Project Stress Relief: Building a Strong Solid Foundation

Article Header Project Stress Relief: Building a Strong Solid FoundationBy Tim Baillie of HzEmall Customs

Every car needs a good solid foundation, and anyone who knows G-bodies knows that there are certainly some faults with the design of their frame and some weak points that need to be addressed with either using a big-horsepower motor, or even turning it into a hopping lowrider.

We started by taking our Craigslist-found $100 frame and calling the guys down at Langley U-Blast to sand blast our frame. They have this awesome package that for around $800 (depends on the car) they will come and PICK UP your frame, have it sandblasted, put it either into epoxy primer or have it powder coated, and return it back to you. Once we got our frame back, we started reinforcing all of the common spots like boxing in the frame and beefing up the rear control arm mount. We then cut out the unused portions, welded in our new coilover mounts and started to smooth out the frame for its body matching Charcoal epoxy paint job.
