We did a complete sound deadening installation in our shop demo vehicle. Using all of the various products from Dynamat and a few other products, this 1983 Buick Regal is quieter inside then any Lexus or Mercedes-Benz. Dynamat products are important for keeping a vehicle quiet on the inside, but it’s also very important in keeping your vehicle cool from the heat generated from engines, transmissions and exhaust systems.
The following are the four main products used from Dynamat.
Dynamat Original is a styrene-butyadine-rubber-based, pressure-sensitive adhesive-backed, heat-bondable vibrational damper. Dynamat Original conforms and fuses easily to sheet metal and other hard substrates.
Dynamat Extreme is a patented, lightweight elastomeric butyl and aluminum constrained-layer vibrational damper. Dynamat Xtreme conforms and fuses easily to sheet metal and other hard substrates.
Extremeliner is a composite material with four parts:
- Bottom layer of 1/8-inch neoprene foam that damps the material it is mounted against and decouples the vibrating panel from the other layers of material.
- 15 mils of acoustic lead, the ultimate low- frequency barrier that not only provides strong low-frequency attenuation, but also enables Extremeliner to conform to irregular or uneven surfaces.
- 1/4-inch of high-efficiency, open/closed-cell acoustic foam optimized for absorbing low-frequency sound. The open cells are designed to accept sound waves while the closed cells dissipate them.
- 3 mils of urethane top facing with a random pattern for a tough outer coating that minimizes reflections and dramatically improves system performance, especially in the lower mid-range and mid-bass frequencies where normal acoustic foam becomes less effective.
TacMat is a pink vibration-damping, energy- and impact-absorbing, semi-closed-cell foam. TacMat’s characteristics include low rebound, delayed recovery from deflection, impact absorption and good flammability properties. Ideal for weight- sensitive applications, TacMat provides high system-loss factors with minimum added weight.
