Big Burnouts: 1984 Chevy Pick-Up

POSTED: 15th December 2009

Demonstrations like this one sent in by Jarrod Nicholson of Edmonton, AB smoking the tires off his 1984 Chevy Pick-up must certainly put a huge smile on the faces of all the tire dealers in the area as there wouldn’t be too much rubber left at the conclusion.

That Corsa Sound

Most would agree that the Dodge Challenger SRT is not only one the coolest-looking cars produced in the past decade but doesn’t sound too shabby either. So when Mopac Auto Supply in Langley gave us call to let us know they were doing an exhaust upgrade on this retro rod we couldn’t get there fast enough.

Rick Bartok started out honing his skills in the late 1960’s as a body man in Prince George, B.C. After stints at shops in Vancouver, he established REB Auto in the early ‘70’s on Riverside Drive in North Vancouver. Have you ever been driving down the street and pulled up to a red light when the guy who pulls up beside you motions you to roll down your window? Your first thought is “Do I have a low tire?” Then you roll your window down and the other guy (or better yet, the girl) tells you that you have a really cool truck and asks where you got your parts.

Short Tracks: Update - A Cut Above (and on the side)

If you read Short Tracks last edition, you would have seen this little beauty that was up for auction on eBay. And if you put in a bid, you would know by now that it was unsuccessful. I chased up some details and found that the car got an offer of US$25,000 but still did not reach reserve (still couldn’t find out) and so the owner pulled it from the auction.

Everyone has heard it a million times before. “The deal is never done until you’ve got the cash in hand,” or in this case the product. This is a story of learning the lesson again. After making hundreds and hundreds of deals throughout the years, I should have known better as I have yet again subscribed to the ten hard lessons instead of the one easy one theory.

There are so many different reasons why one chooses to restore a classic or vintage vehicle. For some it is the challenge and gratification of building something on their own. For others, the prospect of having something no one else has is the appeal. And then there are those who have a deep sentimental attachment to a vehicle.

IBAA – Bracket Racing and Entertainment Together

If you have been to a major drag racing event in Western Canada, chances are good that you have seen the Funny Cars of the International Blown Alcohol Association, with their huge smoky burnouts followed by mid-seven-second quarter-mile runs. They are probably the most popular cars in the West, and for good reasons.

The Terminator

Ah, the joy of speed. That is the Holy Grail that each racer reaches for and it is no different for Pitt Meadows, B.C. resident Rob Fisher. His wild 2003 Mustang Cobra Terminator runs a 10:29 at 136 miles per hour and lays claim to being the fastest Cobra in Western Canada. But that doesn’t stop Fisher from always looking to shave off a few more tenths each time he runs out at the Friday night street legal races at Mission Raceway Park.
